Why Do People Fall into Sexual Sin? (The Loopholes)

Two posts ago, I wrote about a lesson in hiding; and last week, I wrote about a lesson in running. To do these successfully and avoid sexual sin, I believe that there is a need to

identify the loopholes. Why do people fall into sexual sin?

Speaking on Valentine’s Day 2021 in a programme organised by Highflyers Global Glory Ministry here in Jos, Nigeria, I told those who were present at the meeting that they needed to be careful about the lips and the eyes. The lips and the eyes are the loopholes (For details of that message, you can access the 10 minutes video by hitting this link: https://youtu.be/DfmjEPbChlg).

The lips and the eyes, for each sex, is different. For the gentlemen, you need to look out for her eyes – that is, avoid them. The Book of Proverbs declares:

Do not lust after her beauty in your heart; nor let her seduce you with her eyelids

For by means of a harlot a man is vanquished to a piece of bread; and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.

Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? (Proverbs 6:25-28, A Faithful Version)

So, you are advised not to allow yourself to be seduced by her eyes with her wanton glances. Sex is what she is thinking. Sex is where she is going. The admonition to lust not after her beauty means strictly, intentionally, to not desire it. As it is, the admonition is a warning to repress the very first inclinations to unchaste desires. They may be unobserved and undetected by others, but they are known to you, and the first duty of repressing them calls for an act of determination and will on your part. Remember, our Lord Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:28 (The Passion Translation):

However, I say to you, if you look with lust in your eyes at the body of a woman who is not your wife, you’ve already committed adultery in your heart.

Now, for the ladies, you need to look out for his lips – that is, avoid them. Thus, there are the seducing eyes and the lying lips. And these are names of demonic spirits. Remember Jonadab in 2nd Samuel 13? He taught his friend, Amnon, the son of David, the lies he should tell to get Tamar his sister in order to get to sleep with her. The innocent girl fell for his lies and he raped her. Every young man needs to be careful, not only about the company he keeps, but also to the things he discusses with anybody. Proverbs 12:22 states that lying lips are an abomination to the Lord; but they that deal truly are His delight (King James Version).

Similarly, every young lady needs to be careful about lying lips. Rehearse in your head what you know he is going to say to you. Yes, you know already what he is going to say to you when he stops you to talk to you, with the obvious look of one who lacks confidence, with that show of uncertainty at what answer you’d give. You know all these things, so don't just stand there laughing or smiling sheepishly. Be ready for him. This way, you have a ready answer always. Jesus always had a ready answer for His attackers. And you’d probably have to pray this prayer from the Book of Psalms:

Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue (Psalm 120:2, King James Version).
